Hairy Gay Bear Men
Gay sexuality and relationships are far more complex and varied than what it appears to those outside the gay community. Gay bears form a subculture within the gay community, and the term bear refers to gay men sporting specific body types: hairy men with a stocky or heavy-set build, and with facial hair. Bears are themselves divided into subtypes. Chubs are gay men with big, heavy bodies, whereas Cubs are usually younger bears, often not big and heavily built, or with hair on their bodies.
The metaphorical reference to the bear animal is not accidental. The animal's significance in gay bear subculture stems from it being hairy, with a big, large and heavy body, and its powerful qualities. This forms the ideal body type of physical and sexual attraction in the gay bear community. Even though not all bears sport hair on their bodies, it is preferred among older gay bears, as hair is synonymous with hyper masculinity, which is a quality they find significant in the gay bear community.
The existence of the hairy gay bear subculture is testimony to the imagination and variation in the realm of human sexuality. Not only is the male body as such sexualized and imbued with significant erotic qualities, but also a very specific body type is found to be sexually appealing.
