Gay bear muscle men form a very specific group within the gay bear subculture. These are men with pronounced muscular bodies. Others often romantically or sexually pursue them within the bear community, because of their particular body shape and build.
Muscled gay bears are metaphorically associated with the aesthetics and beauty of the male body as powerful and glorious, and as representing natural, Herculean strength. Those in the bear community who are physically attracted to muscle bears tend to reject effeminate gay men.
The existence of muscle bear men attests to the variations that exist within the gay subculture. Within the gay bear niche of gay pornography, hordes of pornographic videos and magazines are specifically dedicated to gay bear muscle men and their admirers. Muscle bear contests are a favorite among the bear community at gay bear social events.
Some muscle bears do not accept men with large body fat as being truly bear men. This issue forms part of the ongoing political debates among the gay bear community. Again, it indicates something about the complexity and diversity in human sexual relationships in general, and specifically within the gay community.
Not all gay men are physically attracted to any gay man. Issues of bodily aesthetics are as pertinent among members of this community, as they are among those of different sexual persuasions.
